Pandemic Relief Efforts
Role Lead Designer
Company Google
When COVID hit, we hit pause on our roadmap. I designed two crisis-response features—a Resources hub and a Local News block—to help people find trustworthy information fast. We shipped in weeks, not quarters.
Press coverage here
While search queries related to the pandemic soared, users struggled to find trusted, localized information. A centralized hub for this information was missing, and local news coverage was scattered and difficult to discover.
Searches exploded, but the response was subpar
I built a framework for surfacing authoritative content and sketched solutions that could scale globally. Prototypes went from Figma to production in a matter of days. Collaboration was intense with 19 stakeholders, two design leads, and many late-night reviews.
Our shipped feature showed up in ~25% of COVID-related queries. I earned leadership recognition (and a bonus 🎉) for impact under pressure.
If revisited, I’d explore using AI to automatically curate and verify local resources, and adapt content dynamically based on a user’s region or risk level.
